The Brahmin and the Three Thieves

Panchatantra · retold for families

About 4 min read aloud · For grown-ups and children together

A Brahmin bought a goat and carried it home on his shoulders. Three thieves plotted to take it without a fight.

Each thief met him on the path. “Why carry a dog?” asked the first. “This is a fine goat,” said the Brahmin. The second said, “That is a dead calf.” The third whispered, “Sir, that is a demon on your back.”

Confused and ashamed, the Brahmin dropped the goat and ran. The thieves shared the meal.

Later, a wise neighbor said, “If three strangers rewrite your truth, pause and touch what you carry.”

Listeners learn: trust your hands and your heart when voices confuse you.
