Once upon a time
The Crows and the Serpent
Panchatantra · retold for families
About 4 min read aloud · For grown-ups and children together
Two crows built a nest in a mango tree. Each spring, a serpent slithered up and swallowed their eggs while they searched for food.
They asked their friend the jackal for advice. “Take shiny jewels from the queen’s garden,” he said, “and drop them in the serpent’s hole.”
Servants followed the glitter, found the serpent, and drove it away with sticks. The tree was safe again.
The crows hatched three chicks with soft grey fluff. They shared ripe mango with the jackal.
Families retell this when bullies seem too strong: clever friends and calm plans can protect what you love.
