Once upon a time
The Swan with Golden Feathers
Jataka · retold for families
About 4 min read aloud · For grown-ups and children together
A golden swan lived on a holy lake. A poor woman fed him crumbs; he left one golden feather in her sari fold.
She sold it fairly and bought medicine for her daughter. Each month one feather, never more.
A greedy merchant captured the swan and plucked every feather — they turned to dull grey ash in his sack.
Released, the swan grew new gold slowly. The woman still received one feather, enough.
Greed turns gift to dust; patience keeps light.
