Once upon a time
The Prince and the Seed of Loyalty
Indian folk · retold for families
About 4 min read aloud · For grown-ups and children together
The king gave each prince a seed to plant and report in one month. Secretly he had boiled every seed — nothing could grow.
Princes returned with tall plants bought from markets, all except one who brought an empty pot, ashamed.
“I watered daily,” he said, “but nothing came.” The king smiled. “Boiled seeds cannot lie. You alone were honest.”
The empty pot prince became heir. The kingdom trusted him.
Children check their own small lies before sleep — honesty is royal.
