The Owls and the Crows

Panchatantra · retold for families

About 4 min read aloud · For grown-ups and children together

Owls ruled the night; crows ruled the day. One harsh word became feathers flying every dawn and dusk.

A clever crow pretended injury and hid inside the owl cave. He heard their battle plans and slipped out at first light.

Crows placed dry grass at the cave mouth. When owls returned at sunrise, a spark from a farmer’s oven lit the entrance.

Owls flew blind into smoke and moved far away. Crows celebrated — then missed the quiet wisdom owls brought to pest control.

Years later both sides agreed: fight less, share the forest. Bedtime peace is also choosing truce.
