Once upon a time
The Singing Donkey
Panchatantra · retold for families
About 3 min read aloud · For grown-ups and children together
A donkey found a field of melons and ate until his heart felt like music. He brayed a loud song under the stars.
A tiger, hunting, heard the concert. “Dinner that announces itself,” he thought, padding closer.
A fox friend clamped a paw on the donkey’s lip. “Sing after sunrise, fool!” They slipped away while the tiger searched melons.
The donkey hummed softly all the way home.
Joy is good; timing keeps joy alive.
