Once upon a time
The Weaver and the Ogre
Indian folk · retold for families
About 4 min read aloud · For grown-ups and children together
Villagers said an ogre knocked at doors after dark. A poor weaver had no lock, only wit.
When the ogre came, the weaver bellowed, “I am the ogre of this house — go find another meal!” and rattled pots.
The real ogre, confused, apologized and fled. Neighbors heard laughter instead of screams.
The weaver taught children the loud voice trick only for true danger — never for bullying.
Courage sometimes wears ordinary clothes.
